Beginning of the Adventure: Cusco – Santa Lucía – Punta Carretera

Our journey begins early in the morning with hotel pick-up in Cusco between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. After gathering the entire group, we will start our trip towards the south of Cusco by tourist transportation, enjoying beautiful Andean landscapes, traditional villages, and impressive mountains along the way.

After approximately 3 hours of travel, we will stop in Cusipata, where you will enjoy breakfast and recharge your energy before continuing the adventure.

We will then continue towards the village of Santa Lucía and take a winding Andean road for about 15 minutes until reaching Punta Carretera, the starting point of our hike to Waqrapukara.

Before beginning the trek, we will have time to organize our equipment, prepare ourselves, and receive important recommendations from our professional guide.

Trekking to Waqrapukara: An Adventure Through the Andes : The hike begins along trails surrounded by nature, mountains, and typical landscapes of the Peruvian Andes. The route is approximately 2.5 kilometers long and takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes, with a gradual ascent that allows you to enjoy the scenery and capture incredible photographs throughout the journey.

As we continue walking, the impressive silhouette of Waqrapukara gradually appears before us — a unique rock formation that houses an ancient Inca ceremonial center. The perfect combination of architecture, nature, and the immensity of the Andean landscape makes this arrival one of the most memorable moments of the tour.

Exploration of the Waqrapukara Archaeological Complex

Upon arrival at the archaeological site, our guide will share the history, meaning, and mysteries surrounding this important Inca sanctuary. You will explore ancient structures, terraces, ceremonial plazas, and natural viewpoints offering spectacular views of the Apurímac River and the impressive Andean canyons.

You will have free time to explore the surroundings, walk around the complex, and capture unique photographs of one of Cusco’s most incredible hidden destinations.

Then, we will begin our return hike along the same trail to Punta Carretera, where our transportation will be waiting to take us back to Cusco.

During the return journey, you can continue enjoying rural landscapes, traditional communities, and the beauty of the Andes until arriving in Cusco at approximately 6:00 p.m., concluding a day full of adventure, culture, and history.
